Google Maps !?

The google people just keep on impressing me. This map/directions system, blows away mapquest. You can choose a start and end point, it will draw a transparent .png file on the map dynamically (the map itself is DHTML). And then it will have the pins at the start/destination point, and which you can click on those and have the address pop up.

This is all very impressive coupled with the fact that it’s super fast.

I hope they offer support for the Safari browser though. But I usually use firefox anyways. From what I understand Safara doesn’t have a XSLT processor? and that’s the problem? I’m not sure but if you check out Slashdot.org someone has pulled it apart and given a thorough technical analysis.

There is even someone who wrote a perl script that will draw lines with the transparent PNG that makes the routes on Google Maps. That’s pretty cool.

Out.
